Becoming an Ursuline

Saint Angela Merici, foundress of the Ursulines, gestures to each of us: "Come and See"

Becoming an Ursuline has its roots in a personal invitation from God. Every call from God is an invitation to transformation, and an invitation to set one’s foot on a journey that will last a lifetime. All the great patriarchs and prophets experienced this call. Abraham was called out of Ur of the Chaldees to begin a great nation. Jacob experienced the transformative power of the heavens breaking open in his mystical vision of “the house of God and the gate of heaven.”  Saint Angela, in her vision at Brudazzo, had a similar mystical experience of a ladder leading to heaven – a vision that eventually led to the formation of her Company of Saint Angela.

The beginning and continuation of this pilgrimage can be described in five steps:

Candidacy and Postulancy

Novitiate

Juniorate

Tertianship

Other opportunities for ongoing formation of one’s spirituality occur throughout one’s Ursuline life.

We invite you to contact us for further information if you feel the Lord might be inviting you to COME AND SEE.

Becoming an Ursuline is a pilgrimage of transformation in Christ Jesus through his transforming presence in our world today. This transformation is above all the work of the Holy Spirit. It continues throughout life, and on it depend, to a large extent, our spiritual depth and apostolic effectiveness. (Constitutions no. 106)

The theology of religious life is an inexhaustible topic, written about and lived by some of the greatest saints in every age. For a bit more on this topic, please click here.
