March - World Day of Prayer for Peace

January 1, 2011 - March for Peace in Rome

On the occasion of the World Day of Prayer for Peace, a march was held along the Via della Conciliazione at the initiative of UISG (Unione Internazionale delle Superiore Generali), USG (Unione Superiori Generali), USMI (Unione Superiore Maggiori d’Italia) and the Community of Sant'Egidio. As they do each year, some members of the Generalate community took part in the march as well as some Tertians and some members of the Ursuline JPIC Commission.

The participants reached Saint Peter’s Square at 12:00 noon to pray the Angelus with the Pope and the crowds of pilgrims already there. Benedict XVI reminded the group that freedom of conscience and religion is one of the main ways to build peace.
