Our Prayer

OUR LITURGICAL PRAYER

The Eucharistic sacrifice, memorial of the death and resurrection of Christ, draws us more deeply into the paschal mystery and enables us to share in the redemption of the world. It is the centre of our liturgical life. As the sacrament of love and source of unity, the Eucharist binds us together in community with one another and with all the people of God. In receiving Christ who gave himself up for us, we are called to give our lives for others. We shall make every effort to participate daily in the celebration of the Eucharist. When this is impossible, we shall normally have a celebration of the Word with the reception of the Eucharist. (Constitutions 51-53)

The Liturgy of the Hours unites us with the adoration, praise and petition of Jesus Christ. Offered in the name of all creation, it gathers together in the one voice of the Church the aspirations, joys and sufferings of all mankind. It enlarges our prayer to the ends of the earth and into eternity, uniting us as a community with the whole Church. We unite ourselves to the official prayer of the Church by reciting Morning and Evening Prayer in common. (Constitutions 57-58)

OUR PERSONAL PRAYER

Prayer is an expression of our union with him who lives in the depths of our being. It is first of all the prayer of the Spirit of Jesus in us who cries out, "Abba, Father". It is, too, our way of listening to what the Spirit asks of us so as to bring our daily living into conformity with his inspirations. This attention to the Holy Spirit requires long periods of personal prayer. We make one hour of personal prayer each day. Each one will assume the responsibility of choosing the time and place most suitable for her prayer. The concern of the community will be to respect the right of each religious for prayer. A genuine life of prayer also calls for perception to see the presence of the Lord in the ordinary circumstances of daily life and in our encounters with others. (Constitutions 59-61)
